Cape San Blas and Environs

Cape San Blas is part of Florida's Forgotten Coast on the Florida Panhandle which stretches from Mexico Beach in the west to St. Marks in the east. Florida's Forgotten Coast may be a bit of a misnomer. The Forgotten Coast is just not over-developed like other areas in Florida. It is quickly becoming a hot destination as other areas further south and west fill up and become too crowded for many people. Cape San Blas itself is about fourteen miles long and the last half is the St. Joseph Peninsula State Park.

There are many links on this website, but here's what Cape San Blas is all about in a nutshell:

Map showing Cape San Blas and surrounding area including Port St. Joe and Aplachicola
  • A Florida vacation destination whose high season is summer, but whose best seasons may be spring and fall, and where people from the northern states and Canada often enjoy spending winter.
  • Fourteen miles of pristine fine white sand beach, pet and especially dog friendly, the last seven of which are a state park. Barrier Dunes is located about mid way along Cape San Blas, very close to the entrance to St. Joseph Peninsula State park.
  • Spectacular sunsets, gulf breezes, fun and relaxation.
  • A beautiful unspoiled back bay which is teeming with wildlife and birdwatching opportunities.
  • Crabbing and scalloping opportunities.
  • No high-rise buildings of any sort. Cape San Blas and the surrounding area is uncrowded and stores and restaurants are local, not chains.
  • A road that is not bumper-to-bumper traffic.
  • Hiking, kayaking, canoeing, snorkelling, horseback riding (on the beach), birding, nature watching to your hearts content.

The towns of Apalachicola and Port St. Joe are close by for shopping, more restaurants, and other leisure activities such as windsurfing, golfing, scuba diving, sailing, deep sea fishing, sunset cruising and just plain exploring.

Other opportunities just a bit farther away include a WWII museum, an aquarium, mini-putt, one of the world's deepest freshwater springs with glass bottom boat rides and the Gulf World Marina Park in Panama City.
